15% discount on the journals article-processing charges (APCs)
To apply for the discount...
- The TMU user must be the corresponding author who submits the manuscript and other documentation to the journal and is the primary contact between the journal and the co-authors.
- Please make the author information list clear with the intact unit names.

- During the Submit process
- Submit within TMU campus...
If you submit your manuscript within TMU campus, the membership discount will be automatically applied.
- Submit manuscript using an unregistered IP address...
- Please select the option “I believe that I am covered by an institutional membership arrangement” on the APC agreement page
- Select "Taipei Medical University" from the drop-down list. SpringerOpen/BioMed Central Support Team will then handle your discount request before sending instructions on how to complete your submission.
- In order to confirm whether you've been included in the membership account or not, please notify TMU Librarian as soon as possible if you submit off-campus.
Guidelines for submitting articles on old and new platforms
- Old Platform:
Membership is confirmed at the submission stage
- Journals on the old platform will be transferred to the new platform gradually, with an undecided schedule.
- Use your TMU email within the TMU campus when submitting your articles, select “I believe that I am covered by an institutional membership arrangement and wish to request institutional payment or discount (as applicable)” during the submission stage. This will automatically recognize you as an institutional member and entitle you to an 85% discount on APC.
- During the journal's transition to a new platform, your institution's name may not appear in the drop-down menu. If you can't find your institution's name, select "I accept responsibility for paying the £___/ US$___/€___ processing charge on this article".

- New Platform:
Membership is confirmed after the article is accepted
- Once your article is accepted, the system will send an email to the corresponding author to confirm their eligibility for the BMC submission offer. The system will verify the author's identity through one of the following three methods:
- Selected institution: Click on the email link and select “Taipei Medical University” from the list of institutions.
- Email Domain: Use your TMU email when submitting your articles.
- IP Domain: Click on the email link within the TMU campus.

Agreement Content
- Elsevier and the CONCERT Consortium have established an agreement to support authors in Taiwan who wish to publish open access.
- Eligible corresponding authors (10% off) is available on the journal article-processing charges (APCs) in ScienceDirect for the TMU current research staff and students until 31 December 2024.

- Current TMU research staffs and students are the corresponding authors of the manuscript.
*The corresponding author is the author who submits the manuscript and other documentation to the journal and is the primary contact between the journal and the co-authors.
- Please use the TMU email and ensure that the author’s information list is clear with the unit names intact.
- Refer to “Writing Principles of Submission Unit" from Office of Research and Development.

- If you are not sure which journal is right for your work, then first match your abstract to relevant Elsevier journals using JournalFinder.
- Who is the corresponding author?
- The corresponding author is the author who submits the manuscript and other documentation to the journal and is the primary contact between the journal and the co-authors. Importantly, the corresponding author’s affiliation will be used to determine eligibility for the publishing agreement.
- There can only be one corresponding author.
- The affiliations of other co-authors are not relevant for agreement eligibility.

Agreement Content
- As Taipei Medical University has agreed on a Read + Publish deal with ACS during 2022-2024, the corresponding authors of TMU can now choose Open Access in any ACS journal free of charge to you if your article is accepted (with limited number of articles per year).
To apply for the discount...
- Current TMU research staffs and students are the corresponding authors of the manuscript.
- Please use the TMU email (OO@tmu.edu.tw) and ensure that the author’s information list is clear with the unit names intact.
- Upon the article is accepted, you can apply for institutional funding to publish the work in an Open Access.
Please note
- When completing your submission details, please ensure you select the correct options on certain pages. Refer to the submission platform's guidelines to avoid missing discounts.
- If authors have already personally covered the APC, they cannot retroactively request payment through this program.
- The annual quota for waived APCs is valid only for the current year and cannot be carried over to the next year or used in advance.
